Updated at 4.39pm: Two coaches and a truck collided on Tolo Highway near Tai Po on Thursday ? injuring more than 100 people, Hong Kong media reported.
Most of the injured were elderly people travelling on the coaches towards Kowloon. One person remained in a critical condition in hospital on Thursday afternoon, local radio reported.
The accident occurred at 11.24am when one of the coaches allegedly failed to brake in time as the coach in front of it slowed down. The truck following them then collided with the second coach.
The passengers had been going to Tsuen Wan for lunch after a sightseeing tour at Sha Tau Kok. The trip had been organised by a community service group, Ming Pao Daily reported.
Local TV showed injured people ? some with blood streaming down on their faces ? sitting at the roadside receiving first aid. One coach was severely damaged and its windscreen smashed.
The injured were sent to several hospitals in Kowloon, Sha Tin and Tai Po.
