Ask most parents what they want for their children and they will answer they want them to be healthy and happy.

As far as the proud parents of Samuel Wong Sam-yiu, seven, knew, their boy was in perfect health. Not only was he healthy but also bright, having scored 125 in an IQ test.

Then earlier this year he started to struggle getting up stairs. Three weeks later he even had trouble walking on a level surface and could not lift his arms to clean his teeth. The skin on his face became red and blotchy.

His anxious parents were frantic, trying to find out what was wrong.

'We took him to the doctor who carried out enzyme level and liver tests but couldn't find anything,' Stephen Wong said.

'We had no idea what was going on. We searched newspapers and websites like mad people. We had to find out what was wrong with him and how long it would take him to recover.'
