A Filipino seaman was arrested in Manila yesterday after threatening to detonate a bomb on a Cathay Pacific flight.
The 28-year-old man, who appeared to be mentally disturbed, was arrested by Manila airport security personnel after the plane landed there at about noon.
Airport security chief Angel Atutubo said Glenn Masahon had been overheard by flight attendants making threatening remarks.
'He was overheard saying he would press a button and they would all explode in a matter of seconds,' said Mr Atutubo.
Mr Atutubo added that flight crew said Masahon refused to give up a bag he was holding, and they had to chase him to grab it from him, but found no bomb inside.
Masahon gave conflicting stories and kept talking to himself while being questioned, leading investigators to believe he could be mentally disturbed.
