Franz Ferdinand, one of the most brilliant young rock bands to emerge in recent years, reach new musical heights with their second album You Could Have It So Much Better. Rife with funky beats, memorable melodies, spiky lyrics and catchy riffs, the hotly anticipated follow-up to the band's self-titled debut is further proof that the outfit is in a league of its own in terms of creativity. Not even popular favourite Coldplay and the revived Oasis have their energy and originality. The album impresses immediately with opening number The Fallen, a propulsive rock piece. The fun is further heightened by Do You Want To, a guitar-driven track set to become a party favourite for years to come. With every song a potential hit single, it's impossible to pinpoint one outstanding track on the album. The band rarely delves into serious issues that could suffocate their music, making You Could Have It So Much Better simple, funny, down-to-earth and delightful. It's old fashioned rock 'n' roll at its very best.
