John Millen

This classy edge-of-the-seat historical thriller is the debut novel from a writer who deserves watching out for . Many experienced writers would have difficulty turning out a plot as tight and as satisfying as the story of The Printer's Devil.

Using the fog-filled streets of Victorian London as its creepy background, this top-notch tale revolves around Mog Winter, a printer's apprentice who knows more about the city's criminal underworld than is good for him.

His natural curiosity leads him into a mystery that piles up secrets and surprises as high as the heap of posters in the printer's shop. Reading The Printer's Devil is very much a case of wondering what's round the corner and racing to the bottom of the page to find out. It is a well-written, stylish page-turner.
