Updated at 5.14pm: A former People?s Liberation Army soldier was sentenced on Friday to life in jail for strangling two mainland prostitutes in Hong Kong. Appearing in the High Court on Wednesday, Zeng Xianzuo, 37, had pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, Ming Pao reported. The court heard that Zeng had visited Hong Kong on a two-way permit after retiring from the PLA in China. He admitted that he had separately killed two mainland prostitutes between December 2003 and February last year. After having sex with them, Zeng used a towel to strangle the women in the bed, the court heard. The retired serviceman was arrested in February last year, after a third prostitute he had tried to kill in a similar manner was rescued. Zeng earlier told police he wanted to kill prostitutes because he hated them. The man claimed that he had been defrauded out of money by prostitutes and caught syphilis from one.
