Here is a multifaceted role for a driven professional who can translate the value of a relaxing holiday or business retreat into solid sales for the company. There is a vacancy at Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel for a director of marketing to co-ordinate, supervise and direct responsibility of the activities of the sales department, and develop the marketing plan and budget. The hotel has recently undergone a $60 million renovation project on the facade, guest rooms and guest floors. Along with the fresh refurbishment, the hotel created the new director position '... because we need a professional who possesses not only the know-how but the vision and creativity to explore the optimal business opportunities of the hotel', human resources manager Peter Wong said. The incumbent would be working at a unique resort and conference centre, featuring extensive outdoor areas, well-planned recreational facilities, spacious guest rooms, a wide range of restaurants and panoramic sea views. 'All of these special features are considered competitive advantages for business success,' Mr Wong said. Ambitious applicants must be results-oriented with a good market sense and have a strong desire to succeed. Confident public speakers who are open-minded and good team players are encouraged to apply. The maturity to function on a senior level is key. 'The director of marketing is one of the key members of the management team in the hotel,' Mr Wong said. The ideal candidate should be a seasoned professional in the tourism or hotel industry with not less than 10 years of experience in a managerial capacity and a degree in the marketing, tourism or management discipline. Experience in advertising would be considered an advantage. 'We're looking for someone with extensive business networks and good public relations,' Mr Wong said. Additionally, those with far-reaching vision and creativity towards tourism are highly sought after. Required duties will include occasional overseas sales trips to promote and solicit business for the hotel, and there are opportunities to sample competing hotel establishments in the region. Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel is one of the subsidiary companies of Sino Group. The vision of the group was 'to make Sino the preferred choice for customers, investors and employees', Mr Wong said. 'The candidate must believe in the group's vision and apply the mission statement. [That is] to thoroughly understand the needs of customers and consistently surpass their expectations ... by demonstrating the six core values of staff integrity, customer first, teamwork, continuous improvement, preparedness and sense of urgency,' he said.
