Not everyone can bear to  watch  47-year-old Madonna dance in a pink leotard, but her latest album, Confessions on a Dance Floor, is first-class.

Unlike 2003's American Life, she sweeps aside politics and returns to her forte: dance music.

The 12  tracks in Confessions on a Dance Floor feature powerful rhythms and beats that are sure to draw listeners to the dance floor.

Lead single Hung Up includes a sample of Abba's Gimme Gimme and the sound of a ticking clock, which symbolises the fear of wasting time.

I Love New York sees Madonna revisit her passion  for the US.

Other standout tracks are Get Together, Sorry and Forbidden Love.

In keeping with Madonna's efforts to appeal to younger listeners, she recruited Stuart Price, a promising young British DJ, to co-write and co-produce the album.

Price has produced New Order and remixed the music of Missy Elliott, Goldfrapp, Depeche Mode and Gwen Stefani.

The collaborative work of Madonna and Price is impressive, but the album doesn't match the heights of 1988's Ray of Light.
