Sport: Table-tennis

Achievements: It has been a trophy-laden year for Raymond, 16. He won the Hong Kong Junior Sports Star, Outstanding School Athlete and Bauhinia Bowl awards and was singles champion at the Hang Seng All-Schools Table-Tennis Championships. Last month, he clinched the boys' Jing Ying secondary schools singles crown  before teaming up with schoolmate Vincent Li Kwun-ngai to take the doubles title.

La Salle and its primary school celebrated a first-ever sweep of the boys' singles and doubles honours in the competition. At the Asian Youth Championships (for under-18s) in India last month, Raymond placed a respectable sixth in singles.

Last year, he was selected to represent Asia in the World Cadet Challenge (for under-16s) in Portugal, and placed third at the Asian Cadet Challenge in India.

Soundbite: 'Table-tennis is an exciting game which offers the pressure I need to do my best. It can help relieve the stress of exams and keep me focused. My coaches, teachers and family have helped me a lot with their support and encouragement.'

From his coach: 'Raymond's greatest strength is that he is very focused when he plays,' said Simon Yeung, his table-tennis coach at La Salle College. 'He certainly has a lot of potential and knows what to do during competitions. He plans his strategy for every match very carefully. His style is not aggressive. He prefers to play cautiously, and wait for chances to come his way. He once told me his theory is 'quality, not quantity'.'

Ambitions: Raymond's target is to be among the top three at the next Asian Youth Championships. In the long term, Raymond hopes to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which he says would be a 'dream come true'.
