Hong Kong coach Val Eaton said: ''It is a wonderful start; they played superbly.

''We built up a solid lead by half-time and this enabled me to give all 10 players in the squad a run in the first game, which is good experience for the rest of the week.

''Jill Aston was excellent at centre, playing a good captain's game, and our defenders kept Malaysia's goal attack to eight from 12 attempts and their goal shooter to 29 out of 44 attempts.

''We got 63 out of 72 attempts and Malaysia managed 37 out of 56.'' In the second match of the day, Singapore recorded their highest score in representative netball by beating India 129-15.
