Cuisine: Mediterranean.

Ambience: Enoteca means 'wine cellar' in Italian,  so it's not surprising that the restaurant  features cellar-like arches,  with wine bottles lining the walls.  But the restaurant retains a contemporary spirit with white walls, red chairs and a modern-looking bar. There's also an  al fresco dining area that   brings to mind a European  cafe.

Price: Reasonably priced (well, for SoHo) at about $300 per person, including 10 per cent service charge and two glasses of wine.

Pros: The food is  good and there's an extensive  wine list  to choose from.  The waitresses  can help recommend  wines.

Cons: As with many  eateries in SoHo, Enoteca is   small, so you may need to wait for  a table. Reservations are recommended.

Recommended dishes:  The white wine platter ($140, above) with six different dishes was served on a  large wooden board, and would be great to share with a few friends.  The platter has chilled prawn remoulade, flash-fried squid with harissa aioli, pear and gorgonzola bruschetta, marinated zucchini, eggplant and asparagus salad, artichoke hearts and green olives. The bruschetta tastes exceptional - pear and gorgonzola  are an excellent match. We also liked the squid because it tastes fresh even after frying. We drank the Mansion House Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2004 ($54/glass), which was quite dry and went well with all the different flavours.  Warm lamb salad ($75) has fresh, lightly seasoned vegetables and tender meat without a strong, lamb smell. The Mediterranean pizza ($98)  had a thin, crisp crust  topped with moist  sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, olives, zucchini, artichoke and rocket leaves.  It had a strong herb flavour and was surprisingly light.

What else? There are  daily set lunches  of two courses plus tea or coffee for $78.
