Have you ever imagined what you would look like as a caricature? Would the artist focus on your nose, mouth, hairstyle or ears? That's Terry Pontikos' job every day at the South China Morning Post, to take the people in the news and create a caricature of them.
As a schoolboy, while his classmates gave an apple to their teacher, Pontikos used to give a caricature. Presumably in those days, the caricatures were kind to their subjects.
More than 20 years on, Pontikos has had plenty of time to hone his artistic skills and wit as his subjects in the news are given the nice or nasty treatment. With Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, Pontikos concentrates on the big glasses and signature bow tie.
Now you could have the opportunity to see what Pontikos makes out of you, or a loved one or friend of your choice - if you bid the highest in a coming auction linked to Pontikos' 'The Newsmakers' exhibition, featuring his caricatures, which appear every Saturday on the South China Morning Post's Newsmakers page. The exhibition is at the rotunda of Exchange Square in Central from December 12 to 17.
A caricature by Pontikos will be auctioned in conjunction with the exhibition, with all proceeds going to Operation Santa Claus. The winning bidder - or the subject of their choice - will be immortalised in Pontikos' distinctive style.
