Early results show English Schools Foundation teachers have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a motion of no confidence in their leaders in response to the decision to cut their pay and benefits by 9.2 per cent.
Results from six of the ESF's 16 schools were returned yesterday, with the rest due on Monday.
'Early indications are there will be an overwhelming vote of no confidence,' said Julian Harniess, chairman of the Association of Professional Teachers of ESF Schools.
Teachers gave a damning indictment of chief executive Heather Du Quesnay, with 181 agreeing with the statement 'I don't have confidence in the ability of the chief executive officer of the ESF to carry out her role in a way that is beneficial to the operation of schools in the ESF due to her reluctance to consult with or listen to advice from staff within schools'. Three disagreed and four abstained.
An overwhelming majority of votes tallied so far - 175 - maintained no confidence in the ability of the executive committee to effectively represent the constituent bodies of the ESF. Five disagreed and eight abstained.
Similar results are expected from other schools.
