Six convicted of dumping body of victim in street
An unemployed man was convicted yesterday of killing a mentally retarded security guard in March last year after repeatedly beating him for two weeks over a $6,700 debt and then dumping his body in the street.
After 21/2 days of deliberation the jury in the Court of First Instance found Lin Siu-lun, 33, guilty of murdering 27-year-old Wong Wai-hung on March 7 last year.
The jury found Lin's co-accused - Lau Ho-nam, 20, and Cheng Sze-lok, 20 - not guilty of murder. The trio had pleaded not guilty to the joint charge. But Lau and Cheng were found guilty of manslaughter by the nine-member jury.
Lin, together with three men and two women, were also found guilty of dumping Wong's body in a street near the Hunghom Ferry Pier after he died from his injuries.
Wong Chi-kwong, 27, Shit Chi-wo, 35, and Kwok Wai-tak, 26, and the women - Ho Sau-ling, 17, and Cheng Chui-mei, 18 - were found guilty of conspiring to unlawfully dispose of the victim's body. They had all denied the joint charge. Wong Chi-kwong and Shit were found guilty of a joint count of conspiring to attack the victim between February 15 and March 1 last year. The pair had denied the charge.
The parents and sisters of the victim were in court to hear the verdict. Wong's elder sister said afterwards: 'Justice is done.'
