Quarry Bay bakery supply shop, Mini Store, just got a little bigger - and a lot harder to find. This excellent shop moved from its minuscule premises on Hoi Kwong Street because rent was too high, says owner Amelie Sit Hoi-yin (right). It's now at 1/F, 44 Pan Hoi Street, in a run-down residential building just a few blocks from the original address. To the left of the outside gate is a small sign saying 'Mini Store' - push the doorbell to let Sit know you're there. Mini Store is still small enough to justify its name and still jam-packed with a well-priced selection of bakery ingredients and supplies, including many items you'll need for the festive season. Sit, who's passionate about baking, carries inexpensive but sturdy cake-decorating turntables, electric mixers, scales, coffee grinders for grinding fresh spices, cutters, moulds, decorating bags and tips, and cake and bread pans. She also has gelatine powder and sheets, milk, white and dark chocolates (Valrhona and Cacao Barry) with various chocolate liquor percentages, Elle & Vire butter ($10 a pack), mascarpone cheese, gold and silver dragees, marzipan, modelling chocolate and praline paste.
