Listing candidate Xiamen International Port plans to increase the designed capacity of three berths under construction by 16 per cent.
The project - a three billion yuan joint venture with Maersk Sealand - would be expanded from its original 2.8 million teu (twenty-foot equivalent units).
The company has also been given the option by its parent company Xiamen Port Holding to purchase underdeveloped berths.
These berths have an aggregate designed capacity of two million teu which translates to 71 per cent of its existing designed capacity.
Management has not given a timeframe for when it would exercise the options.
Other projects located in Xiamen's Dongdu and Haicang port area have attracted government-approved investment totalling 744 million yuan.
