A COMMEMORATIVE plaque will be unveiled today in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai to signal the start of work on a US$35 million purpose-built Formula One motor racing circuit.
The track has been designed by Australian company, Kinhill Engineers Pty Ltd, the same group which created the Formula One circuit in Adelaide.
Project manager for the Zhuhai project, Michael McDonough, said tenders were called last Friday for earthworks and associated access roads.
''We have advertised in Hong Kong and mainland China seeking contractors and hope to start work in January,'' McDonough said.
The earthworks project is expected to take about five months with work on the building infrastructure planned to start in April.
McDonough said the projected completion date was October 1995.
