Diocesan Boys' School (DBS) are on track to regain the Hong Kong and Kowloon title, while girls' defending champions Heep Yunn School look likely to hold on to their trophy, following results from the latest inter-school competitions.
The last time DBS won the Bauhinia Bowl presented to the champion school was in 1999. La Salle College have won the award for the past six years. Heep Yunn have been champions 21 years in a row.
Last weekend DBS clinched the boys' volleyball title and the Kowloon badminton honours, in addition to the swimming and fencing (shared with La Salle) championships they won earlier this year.
Heep Yunn won the girls' table-tennis tournament last weekend, after grabbing the Kowloon badminton and basketball titles in November. Their main rivals for the Bauhinia Bowl award will be Diocesan Girls' School, who have won the fencing, swimming and cross-country honours.
Titles still to be decided include squash, hockey, handball, netball, rugby (December 15), beach volleyball and athletics.
It could all go down to the wire in the athletics competition in February.
'With La Salle College below their best, we have a very good chance this year to finally win back the Bauhinia Bowl title,' said DBS sports master, Kenny Yip.
