ParknShop is adding an extra dimension to its superstores, targeting young couples on the lookout for furniture and electrical appliances.
Its superstore at Whampoa Garden in Hunghom, has already been incorporated with 'Living Ideas', a 7,000-square-foot corner selling household items including everything from cookers, shoe cabinets, ceiling lamps to chairs.
The group said the 42,000-square-foot shop was the first supermarket in Hong Kong incorporated with the 'store-in-store' concept.
The reorganisation of the superstore in the Hunghom residential estate cost $10 million, ParknShop managing director Philippe Giard said, and involved a reduction of retail space for fresh food.
Manufacturers would not rent space in Living Ideas, he said, but ParknShop would share profits of product sales.
Mr Giard said the company aimed to add 'Living Ideas' in five to 10 superstores in two years, with each costing $5 million to $10 million.
