The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and the Consumer Council will release the findings of a study on the chemicals released from the disposal of plastic food containers next Wednesday, with the results determining whether further regulations are required, health chief York Chow Yat-ngok told lawmakers yesterday.
Engineer jailed for calling judge a crook
An engineer who called a top judge a crook and a cheat was thrown in jail for six months. Choy Bing-wing, 61, who had represented his friends in various litigations over the past few years, was found guilty of contempt by High Court Judge Michael Hartmann in October 26, after he called Court of Appeal vice-president Anthony Rogers a crook in a hearing in May 2003.
More seat belts for minibuses, says Sarah liao
More than three-quarters of public minibuses will be fitted with seat belts and high-back seats in the next couple of years, transport chief Sarah Liao Sau-tung said. Of the city's 2,330 public minibuses, 55 per cent have seat belts. The rest do not have seat belts because they were registered before the law on seat belts for minibuses took effect on August 1 last year.
