The Soundtrack of Our Lives - Chet Lam Chet Lam Yat-fung proves with his latest Cantonese album, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, that he is Hong Kong's leading singer-songwriter. He is capable of conveying a wide range of feelings on relationships and life in a touching and entertaining manner. Unlike most Canto-pop songs, which lack genuine emotions and original ideas, Lam's music is rich in content. Each song on his album touches on a distinctive topic, including issues that are dark and melancholic. But Lam's feathery voice and thoughtful lyrics put a fresh and humorous perspective on grave subjects such as death (Dear Death) and solitude (Me and My Shadow), generating strength and courage to face the unbearable. The album's downside is that some tracks sound similar to Lam's earlier work. After the success of his Pillow Songs and Travelogue series, Lam is in danger of repeating himself. But there is a good chance that Lam, 28, has yet to produce his best work.
