The path to success is clear for young skaters Harry Lee Hau-yin and Crystal Chik Tsz-ying. Both won medals at the Hong Kong Figure Skating and Short Track Speed Skating Championships last week, and now they dream of going to the top of their sport.
As both are still in primary school, the possibility of qualifying for the Olympics is a distant hope, but the mere suggestion of it excites them.
'I want to be the Olympic champion one day - just like Robin Cousins,' said Harry, 11. 'I will make it come true step by step. I'm now at freestyle level eight. Within two years I want to be at level 10. Then my aim is to go to the National Games, then the Asian Games and then the Olympics.'
Crystal, 9, is making good progress too. At the Skate Malaysia 2005 competition, she won first place medals in freestyle, footwork and artistic.
'I want to be like Chen Lu, the Chinese skater who won a bronze medal at the Winter Olympics. I met her when she came to coach us in 2002,' said Crystal, a student at Lai Chi Kok Catholic Primary School.
Harry, a student at Pui Ching Primary School, says he loves figure skating because it gives him a sense of achievement whenever he learns new moves, and he enjoys the speed and training.
