ALMOST 60 per cent of the 42 luxury villas being built on the coconut tree-covered Thai island of Koh Samui were sold at last week's three-day exhibition in Hong Kong.
The new $215 million resort of Baan Taling Ngam was launched at the event held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel which ended on Saturday.
At least 24 of the two-bedroom villas, which overlook the sea, were sold to Hong Kong-based buyers to be used as second homes.
The houses - priced at between $3 million and $31/2 million each - and a hotel are being built by First Pacific Land, part of the Hong Kong-based First Pacific Group.
The villas, ranging from 230 square metres to 350 sq m, will be serviced by the hotel, which will be managed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. Construction will be completed in January.
The homes, which are fully furnished, have been designed in the typical Thai style and built with traditional timber roofs. They have been arranged in clusters of five or six, with each cluster sharing a swimm ing pool.
