Reports differ from other things that you might be asked to read for several reasons. Reports usually

combine the narrative (or paragraph) form of writing with bullet points and/or outlines.

Reports are typically designed to relay a specified body of detailed information. In other words, they are not written for the sole purpose of entertainment.

Reports are often highly focused and include some sort of statistical or researched information.

Reports often use technical wording. They get to the point.

Usually people read reports when looking for answers to specific questions or when collecting data for a project.

This means that reading reports can be quite boring and slow, unless you know what you're looking for as well as how to find it.
