Meet the region's leading fashion designers
Local designer Arthur Lam Shu-pan left Hong Kong for Toronto when he was still a teenager. He went on to study fashion at George Brown College of Applied Arts in Toronto and graduated in the early 90s. Shortly after, he returned to Hong Kong and began working as a freelance fashion consultant. In 1997, he joined Matador Couture as design director. Today, he designs four lines, two under his own name.
When did you launch your labels?
Arthur Lam in 1998 and my diffusion line Arthur L in 2003.
Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I've enjoyed drawing since I was young. I knew I had talent, so I took several art courses in high school. It was quite obvious I would become a designer. Later on, I focused on figures and created wardrobes for them.
