Gloomy Sunday (German) (IIB): Based on Nick Barkow's 1988 novel, the award-winning film builds a complex love-in-wartime drama around the mystical powers of the Hungarian song Gloomy Sunday, which was said to have induced hundreds of young people to commit suicide in the 1930s. A Chinese Tall Story (Cantonese) (IIA): Director Jeff Lau Chun-wai returns with this whimsical romance adapted from the Chinese fable Journey to the West. Charlene Choi Tsoek-jin plays a wacky lizard imp who falls for the Buddhist monk Tripitaka (Nicholas Tse Ting-fung) and eventually transforms into a galactic warrior to save her love. Not reviewed.
Chicken Little (with English and Cantonese versions) (I): Disney's first computer-animated film adds a War of the Worlds twist to the fable of a young chicken that causes widespread panic when he mistakes a falling acorn for a piece of the sky.
