Koreans lined up with 'very local-looking actors', says lawyer, who'll file complaint
A lawyer for detained World Trade Organisation protesters has vowed to file another complaint against the police in court today, alleging that an identity parade in which they were singled out was improperly run.
Solicitor John Clancey said the Japanese and Korean detainees had been lined up with 'some very local-looking Hong Kong actors' which would have made them 'stand out from the crowd'.
Mr Clancey was speaking a day before the 14 were due to appear in Kwun Tong Court for a bail hearing.
If the legitimacy of the identity parade is successfully challenged, the prosecution case may be weakened and thus provides a strong ground for the defendants' bail application.
Mr Clancey said Bishop Joseph Zen Ze-kiun would provide accommodation and surety to 12 detainees, though not a Taiwanese student and a mainland designer.
'They are children of the Catholic family, I hope their appearance in court today will run smoothly, because they have not committed any offence,' the bishop said yesterday, after visiting three Koreans and a Japanese suspect held at Wong Tai Sin Police Station.
