What will you eat this Christmas?

While many Hong Kong families will enjoy sumptuous meals this Christmas, thousands do not have enough to eat.

Some 449,000 households in Hong Kong live under the poverty line;

One in four children lives in a low-income household;

As of the first quarter of this year, 1.25 million people in Hong Kong were living in low-income families;

The poverty rate has risen from 14.8 per cent in 1995 to a 10-year high of 18.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2005;

About 110,000 households are unable to spend more than $24 a head on food per day.
