A FORMER police officer yesterday lost his High Court appeal against a two-month jail term for bookmaking. Billy Wong Chak-cheung, 25, who left the force to manage a karaoke bar, and Wu Shing-yip, 30, a factory worker, pleaded guilty in Tuen Mun Court in September. They were sentenced to two months' jail and ordered to pay fines of $10,000. They were granted bail pending their appeal. Armand Souyave appealed on the grounds that the magistrate was wrong in saying Wong was running a substantial operation when bets of only about $15,000 were taken. Mr Justice Ryan said the sentences were neither excessive nor wrong. Wong and Wu admitted engaging in bookmaking on June 2 at Kei Lun Wai, Tuen Mun, when police raided a flat and discovered their betting paraphernalia.
