Australian jockey Chris Munce continued the boom start to his season on Fat Choy Forever yesterday as trainer Dennis Yip Chor-hong took the lion's share of the dirt prizes.
Yip saddled up two of the three all-weather winners on the mixed card, adding Fat Choy Forever in the seventh to his Class Five victory to break Fun Cruiser's maiden status in the second.
Munce (pictured with Yip) didn't enjoy the best of support on his previous tour of duty in Hong Kong more than six years ago, but it has been altogether different this term with the rider getting mounts from a wide range of stables and taking full advantage.
Yesterday on Fat Choy Forever, he parked the gelding in behind what looked a solid pace on paper and the five-year-old revelled in the role.
'Dennis didn't give me any particular instructions, just to get him out of the gates and put him into the race,' Munce said. 'I saw he was coming back from 1,650 metre runs so as long as he had the speed to be there and hold a position early, I knew he was going to be fit and tough at the finish.'
That he was, clearing out to score by over two lengths in his second 1,200m all-weather win for the season, and giving Munce his 19th victory and taking him into the championship top five for the first time.
