Sin Sin Fine Art Ends Jan 25 Printmaking often bears the brunt of biases, with the debate centring on what constitutes an original. Whereas printmakers create an original, hand-pulled prints often are reproduced in multiples, which may lessen the value. 'We feel printmaking is an under-represented medium in Hong Kong,' says Sin Sin Fine Art curator Elsie Fung. Prints - Limited Editions and Monotypes comprises the work of six dedicated printmakers and artists:Bai Xincheng and Julia Nee Chu (China), Pablo Posada Pernikoff (Spain), and Donald Damask, Rick Lewis and Terrell James (US). Bai concentrates on the study of lines. 'His work seems like scribbles, but it's very intelligent,' says Fung. 'With abstract pieces, your imagination can go wild with images jumping out.' To some, Bai's Untitled 9 (lithograph on paper, right) resembles a man walking with a hat and guitar; to others, it shows a young boy chewing on a branch. James also produces intense line work. Her etchings, such as 22 October (etching print on paper, far right), are filled with fine lines inspired by landscapes and organic forms. The pieces display a dreamy atmosphere with abstract shapes emerging, from a cat's face to Chinese characters. Chu's abstract archival giclee prints explode with colour. The large works are digitally printed on velvet paper. However, from a distance, the splashes of rich black, gold, red and yellow resembles watercolours. The show presents works that are unique. 'Prints deserve as much respect as any other medium,' Fung says. Tue-Sat, 10.30am-7.30pm; Sun, 2pm-7pm, G/F, 1 Prince's Terrace, Mid-Levels. Inquiries: 2858 5072
