Chow Kwok-chung rides the East Rail to Lowu three or four times a week to do business in Shenzhen, and he will not stop doing so.
'It would take at least half an hour more to get to Shenzhen if I used other transport ... I don't have many choices,' the 47-year-old Choi Hung resident said.
His comments were typical of travellers on the line yesterday, in the wake of revelations about problems in brake system compressors on some of the trains.
Lam Siu-yi, who takes the East Rail seven or eight times a week, said she could not change her routine. 'I will not take the bus as it takes more time,' she said.
Ah Kuan, 52, from Fanling, said he still had confidence in the trains.
'I have taken it for more than eight years. I never worry about it,' he said. 'The train is the most convenient transport. I work in Kowloon and I have to take it even if it is risky.'
