Councillors in court on rent fraud charges

Two  current and one former district councillor accused of cheating the government of about $250,000 in rental allowances were released on bail yesterday as a court adjourned their case for two weeks.  Kowloon City District Council members Virginia Fung King-man,  58, and Lau Ting-pong,  56, were charged along with former councillor Luk Wai-kong, 51,  with conspiracy to defraud.

Travellers warned about bird flu in Turkey

The Health Department warned Hongkongers planning to visit Turkey to take precautionary measures against bird flu.  Travellers were  reminded to avoid contact with birds or poultry droppings and to consult doctors promptly if they developed fever and flu-like symptoms.
