Pupils from the Chai Wan Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School put their best feet forward in an inter-schools dance contest at Ko Shan Theatre in Kowloon this week. They were performing a Moldavian dance suite, hoping to get a chance to perform in public this year. More than 21,000 pupils from 643 schools are taking part in the annual Education and Manpower Bureau-run event, which started in 1964. The six-week competition is being run across three sites - Ko Shan and Yuen Long theatres and Tuen Mun Town Hall - in seven dance categories: Chinese, oriental, western folk, modern, jazz, children's and sport. EMB chief curriculum development officer (PE) Anthony Lam Kwoon-sun said there were no outright contest winners, although only those with 'honours', 85 points or above, would go on to perform publicly at Tuen Mun in April. Schools with more than 80 points were highly commended and those with 75 or above commended.
