A ROBBER'S appeal against sentence backfired when his 41/2-year jail term was increased to six years yesterday. The Appeal Court said the six year starting point adopted by the judge for Lam Ping-kee was too low. The proper starting point should be eight years with a discount of two years for the guilty plea, the court ruled. Lam, 28, had admitted one count of robbery. The court heard that a woman and her son interrupted three robbers at their Taikoo Shing home on April 8, 1991.
