Mary Melville of Tsim Sha Tsui wants to know why temporary offices made out of cargo containers during the construction of the KCRC's Tsim Sha Tsui East station still occupy a large area of Centenary Gardens now that the project has been completed, and asks when will the public park be restored to its original state.

'Although the KCR Tsim Sha Tsui East station opened over one year ago, the KCR continues to occupy with container-style offices a substantial swathe of public park on the corner of Mody and Chatham Road, in front of Mirror Tower,' she wrote.

'This ugly collection of containers does nothing to make Tsim Sha Tsui East more attractive to tourists and locals alike. The KCR has already destroyed two public parks in the area, Wing On Plaza Gardens and Middle Road Children's Playground, and now has considerable empty space both within the station complex itself and inside the often empty bus terminal built on the Middle Road park.

'There is no reason why it should continue to occupy a large corner of the already decimated Centenary Gardens. When the KCR East Rail extension was originally announced, we were told that park facilities would be reinstated upon completion of the project.

'It is about time the Secretary for Home Affairs, who publishes whimsical articles in your paper on green issues, put pressure on the KCR to vacate this site so that trees can be replanted as a buffer against the ongoing construction work in the area.
