Name: Pang Ying-kit School: La Salle College Grade: Form One Sport: Athletics Achievements: Ying-kit, 13, is a Hong Kong age-group record holder in the boys' Grade C high jump (1.72 metres) and long jump (5.88m), and Grade D 200m (26.73 seconds). He won the Grade C high jump in all four rounds of the 2005 Watsons Water Hong Kong Junior Elite Athletic Championships. He also emerged champion in the Grade C long jump in the second, third and fourth rounds. He was first runner-up in the opening competition. At the All-Hong Kong Inter-area Primary Schools Athletics Championships 2004-05, he set a high jump record (1.66m), and was one of only two record breakers in the event. Soundbite: 'Although training is a bit harsher than before, I can still balance my studies and sports, with support from my coach and family. I aim to improve my Hong Kong age-group records in both events. My targets for 2006 are 6.30m in the long jump and 1.75m in the high jump.' From his coach: 'He is a good student, and is diligent and aggressive in pursuing a better performance,' said Chan Chin-wan, ex-SAR relay team member. 'He is also smart, and a fast learner, with strong observation skills in addition to his talents. He has good potential for athletic development.' Ambitions: Ying-kit is looking forward to becoming a Hong Kong team member, and taking part in large-scale events and overseas competitions. Breaking Hong Kong national records is his long-term goal.
