The annual Orbis-Merrill Lynch Walk for Sight is now open for registration. The walkathon aims to raise funds for the charity which treats blind people around the world. It is scheduled to start at the Hong Kong International School (HKIS) in Tai Tam at 9am on February 26 and end there. Several routes - 5 kilometres, 12km and 13km - are on offer for participants, including families. The proceeds will fund Orbis programmes on the mainland, where there are an estimated nine million blind people. Eighty per cent of the cases are either curable or preventable with proper treatment. Interested parties can register at www.orbis.org.hk/walkathon . There is an 'Invite friends to sponsor' button which helps you e-mail invitation letters and sponsorship forms to friends and family members. Payments can also be made online. The person who raises the highest amount of money will win a package for two to Bangkok. All participants will receive a sandwich box on the day. There will also be game booths and children's activities at the HKIS campus.
