13 medicines withdrawn because of bacteria
Health officers ordered the recall of 13 proprietary Chinese medicines after tests found they had bacterial counts exceeding the permitted limit. The products are Chu Pai Hou Tsao San, Bo Ying Pills, Hou Tsao San, Xian Cao Tang Chu Pai Hou Tsao San, Chi Chun Tang Pearl Bat Po Keng Foong Powder, Chi Chun Tang Chu Pai Chut Lee San, Chi Chun Tang Chu Pai Bo Ying Dan, Chi Chun Tang Chu Pai Hou Tsao San, Hung Win Bo Ying Pills, Chu Pai Chut Lee San, Bao Zhu Brand Chut Lee San, Bao Zhu Brand Bo Ying Pills and Bao Zhu Brand Hou Tsao San. Three cars crash within 30 minutes on wet roads
Wet roads were blamed for three accidents within half an hour. The first was just after 8am when a car skidded on a wet road, hit an embankment and overturned on the Wai Yip Street flyover in Kowloon Bay. Police said the 40-year-old driver was arrested for drink-driving. In the second case, two women were injured when their car skidded, hit an oncoming car and plunged 10 metres down a slope in Tai Tam Road, Stanley, at 8.15am. The third accident happened in Tai Tam Road near Shek O Road, Chai Wan, just after 8.30am when a car skidded, hit a hillside and overturned.
Fire destroys $400,000 of seafood and herbs
About $400,000 worth of dried seafood and herbal medicine was destroyed by fire in a warehouse in Western after the sprinkler system failed to go off. Smoke began billowing from the ninth floor of the 16-storey building on Des Voeux Road West at 7am. 'The fire was brought under control about 45 minutes after it broke out,' Sheung Wan fire station senior officer Ma Hau-fai said.
