Teen volunteer: May Zhang Xiaomei, 19, is a student at City University. She has been doing volunteer services at Haven of Hope Ming Tak Day Activity Centre and Hostel for about two months.

'I mainly help by taking care of the centre's members - who are mentally disabled people - during outings. The regular outings are aimed at teaching them about the different places in Hong Kong and enables them to have more contact with the community. Last month, for instance, we had barbecues in Tsing Yi and Ngan Sin Wan and flew kites in Repulse Bay.

These activities require volunteers. For example, helpers are needed to accompany members to the washroom, assist them during meals, and help them cross the street.
