Help! Where have all my favourite stores, especially Mayer Shoes, gone since the Mandarin Oriental closed for renovations? I can't wait eight months!

Shop Horror, Repulse Bay

The Dictator rules: Panic! You'd better bring a compass! Mayer Shoes has moved all the way to ... across the road. Just across the bridge connecting the two buildings and up two floors, Mayer is now at shop 325A, Prince's Building (Central, tel: 2524 3317). Custom orders still cost about $1,700, depending on style and materials, and take about one week to fill. Jewellers K.S. Sze has also moved to Prince's Building (shop 122, tel: 2524 2803), but you'll have to go to the other side of the harbour for Pearls and Cashmere (shop L64, New World Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2721 2649; or shop MW1, The Peninsula, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2723 6032). You can still pay a visit to the Mandarin's Beauty Salon & Barber Shop, which has temporarily relocated to room 208, Jardine House, 1 Connaught Place, Central, tel: 2825 4800. I guess you'll have to find something else to whinge about.

I've noticed black-and-white striped, long-sleeved T-shirts in a lot of fashion photos, but haven't seen them in the shops. Where should I go?

The Dictator: You might want to get off the dock and sail yourself into a shopping mall, matey. Ever heard of Gucci? The brand's latest advertisements, plastered around town, feature the Cruise collection's black-and-white lurex stripe silk crepe tanks and tees (from $4,220 to $5,000; shop 368, Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2524 0412). Louis Vuitton has thinner stripes on various tops (from $4,050 to $10,500; shop 7, The Landmark, Central, tel: 2736 1600). Izzue (B/F, Island Beverley, Causeway Bay, tel: 2890 3560) is always a great place for trendy clothes and it has basic, long-sleeved striped tees for about $239. Bauhaus (shop 4B, 20 Des Voeux Road, Central, tel: 3513 1800; www.bauhaus.com.hk) carries pricier Tough Jeansmith versions for $425. We also like the longer, belted ones at Weekend Workshop ($160; shop 2224, Gateway Arcade, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2926 3043). Do not accessorise with eye patch, shoulder parrot or hook.
