ALTHOUGH Hong Kong audiences will not see the musical Cats until January, two members of its cast will appear in a preview exhibition of the international box-office hit this weekend at Pacific Place in Admiralty. The musical's make-up and wigs supervisor, Lisa Nichols, and cast member Simone MacKinnon will also demonstrate Cats -style face painting. The public can have their faces painted like Cats characters if they make a $40 donation to TREATS, a charity for under-privileged children. Fifteen students of the Academy for Performing Arts (APA) will help Ms Nichols with the face painting. Ms Nichols taught the students the skills yesterday at the APA. She said it usually took an hour to finish the make-up for each cast member, but she was teaching the students a ''scaled-down'' version, which would take about 10 minutes. She said the students were fast learners. A third-year scenic art student Teresa Cheung Sau-yin said the makeup was fun. She said she would not mind sacrificing the weekend to help Ms Nichols. ''The face painting is pretty easy, and it's like drawing,'' she said. Gay Wilkins, head of costume at the APA's School of Technical Arts, said it was a good opportunity for the students to apply what they learned in class and work with professionals. The musical will run in Hong Kong from January 20 to April 30 next year.
