Meet the region's leading fashion designers
Dickson Yewn Dik-sum was born in Hong Kong in 1970 and spent his undergraduate years in Paris and Ottawa studying fine arts and business. He then moved to New York to study photography and jewellery design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He returned to Hong Kong in 1995 and worked in the advertising and film industries. He launched his jewellery collections in 2000. He has also published two photography books.
Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I wanted to be a movie director or an artist when I was a teenager. In the 90s, I tried both, but I couldn't make enough money to support myself, so I decided to make jewellery to fulfil my needs as an artist.
How did you set up the company?
I started the Life of Circle brand by myself. In 2002, I opened my concept store. Five months later, Sars broke out, but my business survived. In 2003, it soared.
