We all find happiness in different ways

Nowadays, many people seek fame, money and power. They think these things will bring them happiness.

But this is not true. If you have a lot of money but no friends, you will be alone and unhappy.

Some people think happiness means living together with their families, others think it means having good health.

So happiness is different for everyone. What is it to you?

First impressions are important

How do you describe the people around you?

When we first meet someone we know little about them and can only judge them by their appearance.

Although appearance can't tell you everything about someone, first impressions stick and are difficult to change. For this reason I think the expression 'the character of a person depends on their clothing' is true.

Success is personal

Many people think success means earning lots of money, having a big house or a nice car.

I disagree. Success to me means being proud of yourself, for example, if you break your own record at something.

I've entered our school's singing competition for the past three years, but never reached the finals. But this year, my best friend Carol and I practised singing and dancing before the competition and we made it to the finals. We were very happy and felt successful.

Parents can be wrong

When your parents or teachers do something wrong, do you think they should apologise? I think they should.

The other day I waited for 30 minutes for my mother to fetch me. I grumbled when she arrived, but she said it was not her fault. She seemed to think it didn't matter, but did she consider my feelings?

Don't look down on apprentices

Many people think that being an apprentice is degrading because you have to work for someone. This is the wrong way to see it.

If you are an apprentice you can learn a lot from your master, and this brings you success. The opportunity to succeed doesn't come to everyone, so make the most of it.

Being an apprentice is not a second-grade job. Try to be good at what you do and learn from others.

Hard times will make us stronger

'When I was young . . . '' Most of us have heard our grandparents and parents say this.

Or this: 'When I was as young as you I had a job and earned money to help support my family.'

My father tells me this at dinner sometimes. He didn't have an ideal childhood - he had to work.

Nowadays all children in Hong Kong study for at least nine years.

Most are materially comfortable and don't experience any crisis during their upbringing.

This means they haven't any experience in dealing with adversity and often cannot cope the first time things get difficult. But most of them  recover

and learn something from the experience.

Do you think today's youth are lucky? You might think so, but I don't. They don't need to survive any crises or hard times. They are like glass - very frail. But if they work hard they can become as strong as granite, like our parents and grandparents.

Remember the elderly this Lunar New Year

We have all spent the past few days celebrating the Lunar New Year.

Most of us have spent the holidays with our families, enjoying ourselves and eating lots of good food.

Young people have received red packets and will be able to buy something we like. But, while we were all enjoying ourselves with our families, some  elderly people  just stayed at home and  were alone during the festival.

Last week, I had a volunteer job with my classmates,  where we had to help single elderly people clean their homes.

One of my classmates and I went to a 91-year-old  woman's home.  She thanked us continuously when we finished cleaning  her flat.

It makes me very upset that many people  are not concerned about their parents  and even leave them  on their own over the holidays. I am a traditional Chinese person and will not  treat my parents in such  a way.

I hope you've used this Lunar New Year holiday  to show how much you care for your parents and your grandparents.
