It was a New Year's party Italian-style at one of Central's most glamorous restaurants. With its al fresco piazza setting, restaurateur Pino Piano welcomed the New Year with a group of Hong Kong's elite at Gaia. As chef Paolo Monti presented a sumptuous Italian buffet, the restaurant's flamboyant owner plied his guests with champagne and entertained them in his own Latin style. A four-piece band, DJ and dancers enchanted the guests with bossa nova, Latin classics and the latest popular tunes, enticing everyone to dance late into the night. Among the party-goers were socialite Shirley Li Tam Mei-tak and daughter Levina, Gioia Nassetti, model Anna Rivera, hairstylist Kim Robinson and Randy Weddle from the International Herald Tribune. But Piano was most happy to have his mother (who flew in for the holidays) join him to ring in the New Year.
