Clifton Leung is head of Clifton Leung Designworkshop, where he's responsible for interior design at the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Polo Ralph Lauren and Just Cavalli. These projects may require him to be in vogue, but he says the capricious fashion world has no place in the home. 'Don't go after any trend or striking design,' he says. 'Choose something simple and natural to maintain a timeless quality.' Favourite furniture shop 'Chen Mi Ji [69 Peel Street, Central, tel: 2179 5388]. It has a large collection of antiques from North America and Europe and lots of designer chairs. I bought a rocking chair there by Charles Eames [about $7,000].' Favourite market 'SoHo Antiques and Flea Market in New York. It has a huge range of antiques at reasonable prices - about US$300 to US$400 for a chair. You can also find a lot of stuff by Herman Miller.' Favourite homeware shops 'Those in Horizon Plaza [1 Lee Wing Street, Ap Lei Chau, Aberdeen]. It's a potpourri of great furniture shops under one roof. There's Tequila Kola [1/F, tel: 2877 3295], Banyan Tree [18/F, tel: 2506 0033] and Everything Under the Sun [16/F, tel: 2554 9088], just to name a few. It makes furniture hunting so easy.' Favourite item at home 'A leather wine and accessories cabinet for about $30,000 [from Shanghai Tang, Pedder Building, Pedder Street, Central, tel: 2525 6923]. The side is for storing wine and there's a cigar trunk in the lower part.' Favourite place for inspiration 'Metal workshops.' Favourite living designer 'Philippe Starck, who designed Felix restaurant at the Peninsula. His design is unconventional and I prefer things that aren't mainstream. Some of his products can be found at Homeless [29 Gough Street, Central, tel: 2581 1880] and Dentro [Shop A, G/F Winway Building, 50 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2801 7007].'
