Tsang says sorry for Disneyland ticket chaos

Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen said yesterday he was 'frustrated' by last week's Disneyland ticketing chaos and apologised to disappointed mainland tourists who were locked out despite having tickets.

'We feel very frustrated ... The problem is all along we have been respecting Disney's world-recognised expertise on crowd management. They don't know there is still the golden week mainland holiday affecting Hong Kong. They missed out and overlooked. I feel sorry for our mainland compatriots who were disappointed by the incident.'

Mr Tsang's comments came a day after the theme park's executive vice-president and managing director, Bill Ernest, made an emotional apology for shutting out visitors.

Mr Tsang believed Disneyland had learned a lesson from the incident and said the government as a stakeholder in the park had discussed the ticketing issue with Disney chiefs.

Guangzhou's Information Times reported yesterday that a travel agency from Zhongshan City in Guangdong was going to seek compensation after a group of 90 tourists with tickets was turned away from the park last Wednesday morning.

The paper said that another travel agency in Guangzhou would also ask Disney for compensation after around 100 of its customers were turned away.
