While most people are talking about the booming new Macau, some students are lamenting the passing of the old one.

To Venus Lei Kin-peng and her friends, the glamorous new hotels look less attractive than the lawns and sports fields they are replacing.

'There are too many buildings being put up and too few playgrounds left,' says Venus, a Form Five student who used to play basketball with friends every other day at the Tap Seac courts on Avenue de Sidonio Pais.

But what used to be a popular playground for students has given way to a new square, which is currently being developed.

It is not that energetic teenagers have been forgotten, as a new Tap Seac stadium with two basketball courts has been built nearby.
