Northcote College of Education Past Students' Association School, which was ordered to stop admitting Primary One students last year due to under-enrolment, has been saved from closure after winning approval to convert into a Direct Subsidy Scheme school with new official sponsorship of the Po Leung Kuk.

The school, which will remain on its Kowloon City campus, will resume Primary One classes in September 2007. Renamed Po Leung Kuk Northcote College of Education Past Students' Association School, it will invite applications from this September.

Principal Dennis Koo Hok-chun said: 'Parents, students and teaching staff are all very happy, especially when we get to keep our name. Current members of the school council will also be retained.'

Mr Koo said he did not want to turn the school into one 'for aristocrats'. Monthly fees would be $1,000, with scholarships for 30 per cent of its students.

Clifton Yeung Kin-chung, principal education secretary of Po Leung Kuk, said it decided to run the school with Northcote because of their shared education vision.
