A bottled human embryo was found in luggage belonging to a Filipino maid who was about to leave after completing her contract.
Her employer called police on Saturday after spotting the jar while inspecting the maid's bags in her flat in Fairview Park, Yuen Long.
The maid, 41, said the embryo was her own baby that failed to develop fully.
'The maid told police officers that the embryo was expelled from her body and that was why she kept it in a jar,' a police spokeswoman said.
An examination revealed the embryo was about 9cm long, compared with 25cm for a normal baby.
'The embryo cannot be defined as a dead body of a baby or a child because of its size, so we just classify it as a case of seeking help from police and no arrest has been made,' the spokeswoman said.
